Teen Sewing Classes: Fashion Accessories & Clothing (12-Week Programme)
Let’s start sewing sustainable clothes and bringing your fashion ideas to life! In this 12-week course, 1 lesson per week, teenagers aged 13–19 will learn how to design and sew their own creations while making friends and gaining confidence. Perfect for beginners, this programme is taught in a cosy and friendly environment where students are free to explore their creativity.
Day and Time - Thursday 16:30 - 18:00 every week
What’s Included?
- Domestic Sewing Machines: Students will start on beginner-friendly Janome heavy-duty sewing machines.
- Industrial Sewing Machines: As confidence grows, students can try user-friendly industrial machines with slow-speed motors.
- Sketchbook: Each student receives a sketchbook to design, doodle, and develop ideas.

Materials & Resources:
- Access to upcycled materials and fabrics.
- Students are encouraged to visit local fabric shops, Shoreham Scrap Stores, or bring garments from charity shops or their wardrobe for upcycling.
Programme Structure
This course is designed to build sewing skills progressively while fostering creativity and sustainability.
Weeks 1–4: Make a Tote Bag
- Learn the basics of sewing on a machine.
- Design and construct a simple tote bag using upcycled materials.
- Add a personal touch by weaving or tufting a unique panel to incorporate into the bag.
Weeks 5–8: Design & Create a Hoodie or Bomber Jacket
- Sketch ideas and choose a design direction.
- Learn pinning, cutting, and measuring techniques.
- Bring old clothes to adapt, repurpose, or incorporate into your jacket.
Weeks 9–12: Upcycle & Personalize
- Transform old garments into entirely new creations.
- Experiment with advanced sewing techniques to give a professional finish to your work.
Skills You’ll Develop
- Sewing Machine Mastery: Learn to confidently operate both domestic and industrial sewing machines.
- Fashion Design & Illustration: Sketch and plan designs, using mood boards for inspiration.
- Upcycling & Sustainability: Gain awareness of sustainable practices by repurposing fabrics and garments.

- Pinning, cutting, and measuring.
- Weaving, tufting, and draping fabrics.

You’ll be guided every step of the way by Bex, an experienced maker with a wealth of knowledge. Bex holds a 1st Class BA (Hons) in Fashion Womenswear, where she trained in clothing construction. Her career evolved into leatherwork and bag-making, giving her a unique skill set that she now shares in these classes.

- Our courses run from 16:30 - 18:00 Thurs in our custom build (by my fair hands) garden studio.
- We have a maximum of 4 students per class so lots of 1-2-1 attention.
- Soft drinks and biscuits will be provided.
