Leather Handbag Sampling and Production

At RJ Leather Studio, we pride ourselves on delivering the highest standard of leather craftsmanship in handbag manufacturing.

We specialise in soft, turned leather handbags, fully lined handbags and more structured bag designs, with all stitching completed on industrial sewing machines to achieve a professional, luxury-quality finish.

We work with both chrome-tanned and vegetable-tanned leathers, carefully selecting the most suitable leather for each design. Vegan leather alternatives can also be used where required, offering flexibility to suit your brand and product range.

Our focus is on supporting start-up brands, independent designers and established businesses by providing product development, sampling and small-batch production services.

Sampling & Product Development

Sampling and pattern development are charged at £40 per hour.

Working from your specification sheet, technical drawings or design concept, we can create the pattern, develop your prototype and produce a professionally finished sample. Throughout the sampling process, we work closely with you to refine your design and ensure it is ready for production.

Once the final sample has been approved and timed, we will calculate the production time and provide you with an accurate production cost per unit.

Estimated Sampling Costs

Small, simple clutch bag
Estimated time: 8–16 hours
Estimated sample cost: £320–£640

Medium-sized handbag
Estimated time: 16–32 hours
Estimated sample cost: £640–£1,280

Large handbag
Estimated time: 32–40+ hours
Estimated sample cost: £1,280–£1,600+

Please note these are guide prices and can vary depending on the complexity of the design, materials, construction methods and any alterations required during the development process.

Small-Batch Production

All production is carried out in-house by our highly skilled production team.

Production is charged at £25 per hour. Once the final approved sample has been completed and timed, we will provide you with a production cost per unit based on the manufacturing time required.

Our minimum production quantity is 10 units per style and colour.

Our studio is fully equipped to manufacture both leather and fabric handbags, producing every bag to the same high standard of quality and craftsmanship.
