Course Details

This course is the perfect introduction to handbag pattern cutting. Designed for those ready to explore the creative process behind handbag design, it’s an inspiring and practical one-day workshop where you’ll learn how to draft your own handbag pattern from scratch. With expert guidance and professional tools, you’ll walk away with a complete pattern template ready to make into your first bag.

The £159 course fee includes all pattern-cutting materials and a FREE Pattern Master tool (RRP £20) — ideal for drafting patterns from scratch. To secure your place, a 50% holding fee (£79.50) is required upfront (non-refundable), with the balance of £79.50 due a few days before the course begins. What You’ll Learn

This course will introduce you to the creative and technical process of handbag pattern drafting, including:

• Design Planning: Learn how to turn your design idea into a workable pattern, exploring shape, structure, and function.

• Pattern Drafting Fundamentals: Understand how to draft handbag panels, gussets, flaps, and linings, complete with seam allowances and notches.

• Proportion & Balance: Work out the right height, width, and depth for your bag design to achieve a professional silhouette.

• Hardware & Closures: Incorporate zips, flaps, clasps, and fittings into your pattern for a functional and stylish finish.

By the end of the course, you’ll have a fully completed handbag pattern template ready to use — the foundation for your next bag project.

Industrial Sewing Machines

This is a pattern-only course, so sewing is not included. However, once your pattern is complete, you can take the next step by joining our 2-Day Leather Bag Making Course, where you’ll cut and construct your bag in beautiful leather.

What’s Included

We provide everything you’ll need to draft your handbag pattern, including:

• All pattern-cutting materials and specialist tools.

• A FREE Pattern Master (RRP £20) to take home and continue your pattern drafting.

• Tea, coffee, and biscuits available throughout the day.

Please bring:

• Your research and design reference images (sketches or inspiration photos).

• A clear idea of your bag’s shape, proportions, closures, and hardware.
  We recommend discussing your design ideas with Bex before the course to make the most of your day.

Class Structure

• Small Class Sizes: With only 5 students per session, you’ll receive plenty of one-to-one guidance and support.

• Hours: Classes run from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, including a 30-minute lunch break. Lunch is provided at a local café, with tea, coffee, and biscuits available throughout the day.
